David Reid Homes - Wanaka and Central Otago

David Reid Homes Wanaka built our home and I could not be happier with the outcome. The finished house is absolutely beautiful. It is a really special blend of modern and traditional, with stunning cedar finishes and an obvious level of care in the details. I grew up in Dunedin, and Central Otago has always been very special to me. Building this home felt like creating my own little slice of that, and I am so grateful to Chris and the team for helping make it happen. I was based in the U.S. while building in Wanaka, and I never imagined in a million years that I would be building a house. I was pretty overwhelmed at the start, but Chris and the team guided me through the process step by step and helped me make decisions in a way that felt clear and manageable. Communication was consistently excellent and genuinely friendly. They kept everything organized through their project app, with regular progress updates and photos, so I always knew what was happening. They were also very transparent on cost. Everything was explained clearly upfront, variations were handled openly, and there were no hidden surprises. What really sets them apart is the attention to quality and the way Chris advocated for me. A great example was when the joinery company pointed out a few imperfections in the benchtop. I was not sure how big a deal it was, but Chris stepped in, asked the right questions, and helped me understand that I should not settle for imperfections. With his support we were able to get a new benchtop that was finished exactly as it should be. If he spotted something that was not up to his standard, he made sure it was addressed and redone when needed, and he was completely transparent with me throughout. Even after the build was finished, he continued to proactively identify any issues, and made sure they were fixed. That kind of aftercare is rare. I also really appreciated Chris’s emphasis on using local Wanaka vendors wherever possible. The site was run professionally, the tradies were well managed, and they connected me with excellent people for interiors, joinery, and data and tech etc, which made the whole experience smoother and lifted the final result. The house was finished on schedule. Chris also knew exactly when I was flying over from the States and made sure everything was perfect and ready for me when I arrived. I would highly recommend David Reid Homes in any situation, and especially if you are new to building and/or managing the build from overseas. They are professional, reliable, and genuinely lovely people to work with!
